I’ve built and sold sponsorships for 20+ years. In 2017, I launched my own sponsorship agency focused on working with brands to develop their grassroots partnerships as well as working with national, regional and state level sports organizations to build and sell their own sponsorships.
My agency currently works with several sports technology brands that want to develop the right relationships with large youth sports organizations (50,000 members or more). My agency also works with large sports organizations to build and sell their sponsorships.
I created this blog to help smaller grassroots organizations like youth sports clubs or high school teams build and create their own Sponsorship Program and Plan. Regardless as to how big or small your organization is, rest assured there is a sponsorship strategy for all groups to consider.
The first point I like to emphasize for organizations seeking to build out their sponsorships is know what you are willing to deliver for a sponsor. If you do not understand what you can deliver than you will not be successful. By way of example if you build out a sponsorship package that includes one email a month, signage, website content and more you need to have the staff to execute and deliver those elements. I find the best sponsorship packages for youth sports organizations are those that are really simple. After all most local companies looking to sponsor youth sports are doing it to connect with the community and receive credit from your membership.
